Why do we choose CrossFit?

Our goal at CrossFit Knox Street is to provide elite training to an underserved area of the country. It is in our opinion that in order to become physically fit people need a program that changes lifestyles. A program that not only targets strength and conditioning but improves over health and wellness. Having served as health care professionals in south east Kentucky and Tennessee for several years we saw the need for a program that could improve functional strength, improve health and wellness, fight chronic illness and decrease dependency on long term medication. We believe that CrossFit programing is an excellent way to achieve optimal physical competence across all domains of fitness and health

CrossFit is at its core a strength and conditioning program. It was designed program to elicit as broad an adaptational response as possible. CrossFit is not a specialized fitness program but a deliberate attempt to optimize physical competence in each of the 10 fitness domains. They are cardiovascular/respiratory, endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance and accuracy.

CrossFit was developed to enhance an individual’s competency at all physical tasks. Our athletes are trained to perform successfully at multiple, diverse, and randomized physical challenges. This fitness is demanded of military, police, firefighters, office workers, retiree’s and many sports requiring total or completed physical prowess.

This programming is for everyone from the elite athlete to our grandmothers. Your needs and the Olympic athletes needs differ by degree and not kind. CrossFit at its core promotes functional movement. As a physical therapist and an athletic trainer, we see the need for everyone to improve functional strength and endurance, so that there is a direct result from the exercises they are doing in the gym to those movements that they perform outside of the gym. Not only will you become physically fit but the functional strength you gain will directly relate to lifelong improvement in your ability to perform daily tasks. Secondly, we see a need to fight chronic illness by improving physiological health through lowering blood pressure, cholesterol, heart rate, body fat and increasing muscles mass, flexibility and strength. All these factors are measurable and evidence based research shows a direct positive correlation amongst physical strength and health through CrossFit.
